Canecharging of lawyers echoes in MP Assy

Bhopal, Mar 22 (UNI) The alleged police lathicharge on lawyers at the Jabalpur station premises echoed today during the Zero Hour in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly.

Raising the matter during the Zero Hour, Mr Arif Aqueel and Mr Sajjan Singh Verma (both Cong) demanded immediate discussion on canecharging of lawyers.

Speaker Ishwardas Rohani said the Railways was a subject of the Centre. However, the government will hold a discussion if it was found that something happened under its jurisdiction.

After receiving assurance from the Speaker, the members calmed down.

More than a dozen lawyers and railway personnel clashed at the Jabalpur railway station yesterday. Police personnel had allegedly canecharged the lawyers and dispersed them.
