Cabinet nod to revised conditions for raising FDI in Telecom

New Delhi, Mar 22 (UNI) The Union Cabinet today approved a revised set of conditions for raising the FDI ceiling from 49 per cent to 74 per cent in the telecom sector.

The new set of conditions will replace the conditions of Para 1 of Press Note No 5 (2005 Series), and will help in the implementation of the FDI policy notified on November 3, 2005, Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi told reporters after the Cabinet meeting.

The revised conditions are: -- Remote access to networks in India only from approved locations.

-- Remote access only to equipment suppliers, manufacturers and affiliates.

-- Remote access not to be used for monitoring of contents.

-- Mirror image of remote access information to be made available online in India to security agencies.

-- Complete audit trail of remote access activities to be maintained for six months.
