Woman kills handicapped daughter, commits suicide in Nagpur

Nagpur, Mar 21 (UNI) A young woman strangulated her 10-year old handicapped daughter to death before committing suicide by hanging herself here today.

According to police, Geeta Sachin Gautam (28) had come to stay at the house of her father, Mukesh Patel Thatmuri, in Pardi area along with her 10-year-old daughter Ragini a few days ago after a quarrel with her husband.

The two went to sleep in a separate room in the house last night. Some time in the wee hours today, Geeta strangulated Ragini with a piece of rope, and then hung herself from the ceiling fan in the room with a sari, police said adding that the deaths were discovered this morning.

The woman did not leave behind a suicide note, police said. The cause of the woman's action was not yet known, they said. An offence has been registered under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the deceased Geeta, police added.
