Shoot of Tamil movie stalled in Karnataka
Madikeri, Karnataka, Mar 21 (UNI) The continuing Cauvery protests have spelt bad news for the tinsel town in both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
If the shoot of a Vishnuvardhan-Suhasini Maniratnam starrer was blocked in the picturesque hill station of Udhagamandalam last week by Tamil activists, it was the turn of their Kannada counterparts to stall the filming of Tamil movie 'Ilamai Jodi' at Veerabhumi resort here, yesterday.
The Kannada activists blocked the shoot in protest against the similar act by the Tamilians and raised slogans. Director Periyaswamy and Producer Micheal Suresh tried in vain to convince the protestors.
Later, the film unit agreed to stop the shoot, featuring veterans 'Nizhalgal' Ravi and Vinu Chakravarthi.
Police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
However, the Kannada film unit met with better luck as the shoot was allowed to continue with the intervention of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, himself a film personality, and actor Saratkumar.
Incidentally, the river, the waters of which had remained the bone of contention between the two States for decades, originated from Talacauvery, near here. The vexed dispute had sparked off fresh protests since February five last when the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal pronounced its final award on sharing of the river waters.
