SAD-BJP govt promises peace and progress

Chandigarh, Mar 21 (UNI) The ruling SAD-BJP government today said that it was committed to maintaining peace in Punjab and taking the state forward on the path of progress, providing relief to the poor from the sky rocketing prices of essential commodities.

Intiating the discussion on the motion of thanks on the Governor's address in the assembly, Gurdip Singh Bhullar (SAD) said the SAD-BJP alliance had got a mandate for its commitment to bring Punjab back on the path of progress. The present government was not here to 'rule' but for 'lok seva' (welfare) of all sections of society, he said while pointing out that the Governor's address was a document with a vision.

Claiming that the previous Congress government had indulged in vendetta against political opponents and had politicalised the administration, Mr Bhullar said the present government would provide a ''clean and effective administration''. The government was committed to bringing to justice all those who indulged in unjustified and illegal acts, he added.

Highlighting the 'sangat darshan' programme launched by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal soon after assuming power, Mr Bhullar said that during the last five years, the gap between the people and the government had increased. Elected representatives could not put forth the views and problems of the people before the government, he added.

The SAD member also spoke of the government's priorities in the education, power, industrial and agricultural sectors as highlighted in the Governor's address. He said the government had already made its intention clear that no agriculture land would be acquired for industrial use and if it was, the farmers would be paid the market rate, plus a displacement amount.
