More than 10 lakh pending cases in Kerala courts: Minister
Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 21 (UNI) Kerala Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan today informed the Assembly that about 10.30 lakh cases were pending in various courts in the state, including the High Court.
In a written reply, he said 1,17,549 cases, including 25,038 criminal cases, were pending before the High Court for disposal, while the figure in various district courts was 9,13,316, including 5,08,028 criminal cases, till December 2006.
Admitting that the number of cases before the Lok Ayukta were increasing, he said there were 3,250 cases, including two corruption cases against two former ministers.
The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau had registered 56 new cases during the past one year.
Though the government had not received any information regarding fake currency being widely circulated in the state, he said 58 cases were registered and 45 people arrested.
In another written reply, he said 950 of the 1,047 missing children, including 547 girls, were located.
