Large scale evasion of sales tax in Gujarat

Gandhinagar, Mar 21 (UNI) Total of 1534 cases of cheating of sales tax has been detefcted in Ahmedabad, Surat and Vadodara, Finance Minister Vajubhai Vala today said.

Ahmedabad recorded the highest with ST evasion of Rs 2034.59 crores while Vadodara was next with Rs 868.41 crores and Surat at Rs 456.25 crores during 2005-06, Mr Vala said.

He also said that inquiry has been initiated and fine and interest will be levied on the defaulters.
