Cong candidate Kanchan Patil elected as Sangli ZP president

Sangli, Maharashtra, Mar 21 (UNI) The Congress candidate Kanchan Appasaheb Patil today won the Sangli Zilla Parishad (ZP) president's post defeating the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) candiate Kamal Shahaji Shinde.

In a straight contest between Congress and NCP, Ms Kanchan Patil polled 31 votes while Ms Kamal Shinde got 29 votes. Local Kranti Front's lone member remained absent whereas Jansurajya Party's lone member also did not participate in the voting process.

The Congress also swept the ZP Deputy-President's election as party candidate Satyajit Shivajirao Deshmukh, who polled 31 votes defeated NCP candidate Vitthal Baban Yesugade, who got 29 votes.

Local Kranti Front and Jansurajya Party, which have one member each, did not participated in the voting process.

The 62-member Sangli ZP House, has the president's post for women from general category.
