Short burst of heavy rains bring relief from scorching heat

New Delhi, Mar 20 (UNI) A short burst of heavy rains in the national capital today brought some relief for Delhiites from the scorching heat of the last two days.

The rains, which hit here in the afternoon, followed an overcast sky since morning.

About 10 mm of rainfall was recorded till 1730 hours.

Though the maximum temperature was recorded at 33.4 degrees Celsius, two degrees above normal, the rain brought some relief from the scorching heat of the past two days.

Weathermen attribute the sudden spell of rainfall to the influence of a fresh Western disturbance.

The Met office has forecast more rains and thundershowers here and other parts of Northwest India during the next 24 hours, under influence of the Western disturbance.

They have also forecast a fall in night temperature here in the next few days.

''Rain and thundershowers are likely at a few places over Punjab, north Haryana and Chandigarh during next 48 hours.

Isolated rain or thundershowers are likely over South Haryana and Delhi during the next 48 hours,''the weather office said.

The Met office has forecast a partly cloudy sky in here during the next 24 hours with the probability of rain and thundershowers in some areas. They have also predicted hailstorms or thundersqualls in some areas.
