Schools in Kashmir to remain closed till March 25

Srinagar, Mar 20 (UNI) The authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have decided that all government and private educational institutions will remained closed till March 25 because of cold conditions and flood threat.

An announcement was made today after a flood alert was sounded in the valley following increase in the water level in river Jehlum and its tributaries due to continued rains for the past 24 hours.

The schools were scheduled to reopen today, after remaining closed since March 5 due to unprecedented snowfall.

The educational institutions were earlier scheduled to reopen on February 19 after winter vacation. However, the vacation was extended due to cold.

Police said three class X students were drowned in a nullah at Pahalgam, in the south Kashmir district of Anantnag this morning when they were on way to school. Two of them were rescued while another died, it said.
