MDMK secretary in custody in arms supply to LTTE case

Chennai, Mar 20 (UNI) Tamil Nadu 'Q' branch police, dealing with cases relating to terrorists and extremists, today took into custody MDMK Organising Secretary Sameer Basheer for questioning in connection with alleged hawala transactions and arms supply to the banned Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

Police sources said when a Q branch team went to question Mr Basheer, based on information provided by a suspect, at his residence at Mannadi in North Chennai this morning, his brother, advocate Mustafa, told police he would permit Mr Basheer to be questioned after consulting party advocate Radhakrishnan.

After Mr Basheer was taken to Mr Radhakrishnan's residence, the latter handed him over to police for questioning this evening, police sources said.
