JK Police rescue 30 families from flood-affected areas

Srinagar, Mar 20 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Police today claimed to have rescued 30 families from four villages in Kupwara district inundated by flash floods.

A flood alert has been sounded in Kashmir due to incessant rains over the past few days even as the water level crossed the danger mark at various points in the valley.

Police said they were trying to persuade the people in several flood-prone areas to leave their homes for safer places.

Superintendent of Police, Handwara Haseeb Mughal said 15 families were rescued from Wodhpora and Bhatpora villages in Handwara area of Kupwara district Similarly, 15 families were rescued from Dalgate and Mir Mohallas and lodged in school buildings, he added.

The SP said the flood situation was grim in Vadpura, Bhatpora, Magam, Braripora, Gund, Chowgal, Par Chowgal, Kiltura, Khora, Hanjshat, Kalam Chakala, Batgund Tulwari areas of the district.
