Geelani being treated in Mumbai, because of no US visa so far

Srinagar, Mar 20 (UNI) Ailing Syed Ali Shah Geelani, chairman of the breakaway Hurriyat Conference (HC) will be admitted in Tata memorial hospital at Mumbai tomorrow for an emergency surgery, a HC spokesman said.

Since there is no response from the United States regarding Mr Geelani's, visa, it has been decided to get him treated in the Tata Memorial hospital, the HC spokesman Aiyaz Akbar told UNI.

He said the H C chairman will be admitted to the hospital tomorrow as advised by the Dr H B Tongaonkar of the Tata memorial hospital for an immediate operation.

He said the decision to treat Mr Geelani in the Tata hospital was taken after a team of HC leaders consulted Dr Tongaonkar yesterday.

He said Dr Tongaonkar has said Mr Geelani needs immediate surgery to prevent any further damage to his kidneys.

Mr Akbar said if necessary Mr Geelani will be taken to the US for post operative check up.

The ailing HC chairman had applied for a US visa. However, no decision was taken by the US authorities despite a prolonged interview at the embassy on Friday.

He was informed that a decision about granting visa to him will be conveyed on Monday. However, no such decision was conveyed to him so far, Mr Akbar said.

The United States had earlier informed on March 14 that it will take at least a month to grant visa to him, his wife and son.
