Cong slams TDP's remarks on use of Godavari water

Hyderabad, Mar 20 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) today criticised the statements of the opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders on the government's decision to utilise the Godavari waters to solve the drinking water problems in Hyderabad.

Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan, the party headquarters here, official spokesperson N Tulasi Reddy said the government had decided to bring Godavari water along with Krishna water to the city to solve the shortage of drinking water on a permanent basis.

Alleging that the TDP leaders, instead of appreciating the government's efforts, tried to stall the proposals, he said the people of Hyderabad would not tolerate it.

He said the city was getting 245 million gallons of water through Usman Sagar, Himayat Sagar, Manjeera and Krishna- Phase one as against the required 260 million gallons per day.

Claiming that Hyderabad city would require 900 million gallons of water by 2050, Mr Reddy said the city would get 425 million gallons of water after the completion of Krishna Phase two and three.

He said more than 2000 TMC of Godavari water was going unutilised into the sea.

The government decided to utilise the Godavari water going into the sea to solve the drinking water problem of the Telangana region and irrigation.

He urged the TDP leaders not to obstruct the government's proposals to help the people of Telangana region.
