BJP redicules Cong claim of shunning those with criminal background

New Delhi, Mar 20 (UNI) Ridiculing Congress claims of not giving ticket for MCD polls to those involved in corruption cases and with criminal backgrounds, the Delhi BJP today alleged the candidates' list released by the ruling party included many criminals and corrupt persons.

''A cursory look at the Congress list of candidates for the MCD polls shows the Congress has lived up to its reputation of supporting those involved in corruption or criminal cases,'' president of the Delhi Pradesh BJP Harsh Vardhan told reporters here.

In this context, he reeled out names of almost a dozen Congress candidates who he alleged, were involved in either some criminal act or corruption.

Alleging the Congress had refused tickets to 66 sitting councillors after a secret survey by the party showed these councillors to be involved in corruption, Dr Harshvardhan said,''the party knew that giving tickets to these people would spell defeat for the party in the polls and hence they were refused tickets. At the same time, many others with a criminal background and involved in corruption have been fielded in these polls.' UNI
