Singing in chorus to celebrate francophonie week in the Capital

New Delhi, Mar 19 (UNI) Singing is one of the best ways to celebrate. And singing in chorus is a great means to transmit the feelings of joy to the public.

The Alliance Francaise de Delhi yesterday organised ''Concert des choeurs francophones de Delhi'', a francophone choir concert at the Baha'i House of Worship (Lotus Temple), as a part of Francophonie week to celebrate French culture and bring together the French speaking regions across the globe.

Four choirs--Cantate of French School, Jubilate of Alliance Francaise, Capital City Minstrels and The Opera Choir--consisiting of singers of various nationalities sang together in French for the first time.

''It is for the first time that we have in Delhi choirs with singers of various nationalities singing in French, said Alain Rechner, Director, Alliance Francaise.

The ''Cantata'', a group of children from 5-11 years-old, which presented itself in a public concert for the first time yesterday, interpreted songs on friendship and hope to earn many rounds of thunderous applause.

It was, however, the extracts from ''Carmen Opera'', the story of an eponymous Carmen, a beautiful gypsy with fiery temper, responsible for the downfall of many men, sung by the ''The Opera Choir'' that filled the auditorium with the typically rich French incense.

The musical event was concluded with all the choirs singing together pieces like ''Non, je ne regrette rien''(no, I do not regret anything), ''Hymne a la nuit'' (anthem at the night).

''Four choirs, with people of different age group and experience and specially the three or four-year-old children, singing together is the first of its kind,'' said Mr Rechner.

The choir conductor Gabriella Rechner was as excited as the singers, for whom it was a funfilled experience unlike any other.

''I had a lot of fun performing on the stage today and would look forward to such events,'' said a visibly excited Supriya Sarkar, a member of the Capital City Minstrels.

The ''Concert des choeurs francophones'' was different from the usual choirs with its songs based on love, joy, togetherness seasons and ''tant que vivray'' meaning sing the life.

What is to be noted here is that the event was first of its kind in the Capital.
