Police to take blood sample of Nanda

New Delhi, Mar 19 (UNI) A local Court today said the Delhi Police could use its authority to take the blood sample of BMW accident accused Sanjiv Nanda for examination.

While disposing of the application of the Police, Additional Sessions Judge Vinod Kumar said it had the authority to collect the blood sample from the accused for further investigation.

The Police had moved an application before the court on January 19, seeking direction to obtain the blood sample of the accused.

In the application, the prosecution had mentioned that it would like to match the blood sample of Nanda with the sample collected from the steering wheel of the vehicle and his clothes which he was wearing on the day of accident.

Witness Sunil Kulkarni, who had turned hostile, had been summoned by the court for his appearance on May 14, 2007.

The prosecution had dropped the witness after he retracted from his statement.

According to the prosecution case, on January 10, 1999, Nanda, grandson of a former top ranking Navy official, and his friends were drunk and drove their BMW car through a police check-post at Lodhi Road here killing six people.

Three among the dead were policemen. The car allegedly had other occupants namely Manik Kapoor and Sidhharth Gupta, also accused in the case. The car was allegedly hid at a friend's house in Golf Links area here.
