PCPIA to mount pressure on government to hold talks with ULFA
Guwahati, Mar 19 (UNI) The People's Committee for Peace in Asom (PCPIA) would hold a three-day statewide convention to work out strategy to exert pressure on the state government to hold talks with the banned United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA).
The PCPIA, an umbrella organisation of over 12 groups in the state, today told media here that the convention would kick off on March 21.
Besides different organisations from all over the state, two tribal militant groups - DHD and UPDS - which were in truce with the Centre, would participate in the convention.
The PCPIA had been demanding direct talks between the ULFA and Union government for finding a final solution to the vexed insurgency problem in the state.
The PCPIA had been advocating the release of five ULFA central committee leaders from the jail to pave the way for direct talks with the outfit.
