Medico-Legal ambulance inaugurated in Pune
Pune, Mar 19 (UNI) Newly-appointed Police Comissioner Jayant Umranikar today inaugurated city's first Medico-Legal Ambulance, started with the intention to reduce road fatalities by 50 per cent.
Mr Umranikar said while para-medics and doctors would attend to the grievously injured patient, the police would begin their investigations alongside. ''This way time we will be able to save time and maybe lives,'' he said.
Some roads that have a high incidence of accidents in the city have been identified for parking the ambulances. Special training programmes will be held to train the staff manning the ambulances.
City's Jehangir Hospital has joined hands with the city police for the venture, and to start with, four ambulances will be put on roads and later the number may increase, he said.
Umranikar had first started the medico-legal ambulances as Nagpur City's Police Commissioner.
