IAF airlifts eatables to Kashmir valley
Jammu, Mar 19 (UNI) Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft today airlifted food articles to Kashmir valley under operation Hamsafar-II, while the Jammu-Srinagar national highway, which was closed for eight consecutive days, was partially opened for traffic, official sources informed.
Two IL-76 and three AN-32 aircraft were pressed into service by IAF, which carried essential commodities including 80,000 eggs, 25 ton milk, 1,950 kg tomoto and 924 kg cauliflower to Srinagar, the sources said.
The valley is disconnected from the rest of the country due landslides triggered by heavy rains and snowfall resulting into the blockade of the national highway.
Food articles in Kashmir have witnessed an unprecedented price rise due acute shortage.
