HC orders removing of 'dhabas' along NH-I

Chandigarh, Mar 19 (UNI) The Punjab and Haryana High Court today directed the state governments of Punjab and Haryana to remove all the 'dhabas' and other structures along National Highway-I, which fall within the specified cotrolled area under the scheduled roads act.

The Division Bench of Chief Justice Vijender Jain and Justice Rajiv Bhalla ordered this, while dismissing some writ petitions vide which stay had been sought on demolition notices served by the town and country planning departments of the two states.

Treating the matter as one of public interest, the Bench has asked status report of action taken by the two state governments and listed the matter for April 23.
