Gudi Padwa celebrated with traditional gaiety and fervour

Panaji, Mar 19 (UNI) Gudi Padwa, the festival heralding the new Hindu Calendar Year, was celebrated with traditional gaiety and fervour in Goa today.

Also known as 'Ugadi' for Telugus, the festival was celebrated with enthusiasm by a large section of Telugu population from Andhra Pradesh settled in Goa.

Meanwhile, Water Resources Minister Filipe Neri Rodrigues chose the auspicious day to resign as independent MLA, to join the Congress before being reinducted as the minister again this evening.

Others who joined the Congress included four former legislators including acting president of the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) Dr Kashinath Jalmi, Shivdas Verekar, Vishnu Prabhu and Mohan Amshekar at a function in Priol in presence of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) chief Ravi Naik.
