Govt adopting multipronged approach to tackle female foeticide

New Delhi, Mar 19 (UNI) Admitting that female foeticide incidence has increased in the country, Minister for Women and Child Development Renuka Chowdhury said today that the Government is adopting a multi pronged approach for tackling female foeticide which includes awareness and gender sensitization and launching schemes for survival, welfare and development of girl child.

In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, she said one such scheme is the Cradle or Palna Scheme for rescue of abandoned girl children.

In another reply, she said the Ministry has been implementing a scheme of assistance for construction/expansion of hostel building for working women. Under the scheme, it has sought an outlay of Rs.

500 crore in the 11th Five Year Plan for sanctioning 40 new hostels each year all over the country.

The Ministry has also requested all State Governments and Union Territory Administrations to make a demand survey of working women's hostel and to recommend proposals for places where any demand is evident.
