FDI in tobacco: Farmers to meet Union Ministers

Vijayawada, Mar 19 (UNI) A delegation of tobacco farmers of Andhra Pradesh will meet Union Commerce Minister Kamal Nath and Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar at New Delhi today to press for allowing Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in tobacco purchase.

The farmers under the banner a Virginia Tobacco Farmers' Association, would urge the Centre to allow FDI in Tobacco purchase to create buoyancy in the market.

According to the association, while the Tobacco farmers in other countries received better price for their produce, the Indian farmers were not getting fair price because there was no FDI in the sector.
