Delhi Ridge not affected by Delhi Metro: Namo Narain Meena
New Delhi, Mar 19 (UNI) Delhi Metro has not affected the city green lung, Delhi Ridge, and will only infringe its very small area due to unavoidable reasons, Minister for Environment and Forests Namo Narain Meena told Parliament today.
The metro rail had not affected the ridge area so far. However, the proposed Central Secretariat-Qutab Minar-Gurgaon corridors, approved by governemnt, would infringe the ridge area at three locations, he told Lok Sabha in a written reply.
These infringements were unavoidable and involved only a small area of the ridge measuring 5.56 hectares on permanent basis and 2.17 hectares on temporary (during the construction phase only) basis.
During construction, it would be ensured that minimum number of trees were affected in the ridge area. Compensatory plantation for the trees being felled will be taken up.
