Vasan alleges Jaya fast out of "political jealousy"

Chennai, Mar 18 (UNI) Union Minister of state for Programme implementation and statistics and senior Congress leader G K Vasan today criticised AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa's fast on the Cauveri water issue.

In an informal chat with newspersons here today, Mr Vasan claimed that Ms Jayalalithaa's fast was out of ''political jealousy''.

Political party leaders, who favoured an amicable solution to important issues like Cauvery, should put behind their differences and approach the issue, he said, adding.

That people like Jayalalithaa who hold several responsibilities, should realise the seriousness of the issue and act accordingly.

He said the Tamil Nadu Government would file an appeal before both the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal and the Supreme Court to ensure that Tamil Nadu farmers would get what they expect from the Tribunal.

Responsible political leaders like Ms Jayalalithaa should realise that friendly relationship between the two neighbouring states was imperative, he said.
