TN gets lion share of central schemes: Vasan
Chennai, Mar 18 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Programme Implementation and Statistics G K Vasan today said thanks to the cordial relationship between the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre and DMK Government in Tamil Nadu, the State is getting the lion share of centrally sponsored schemes.
Participating in the State Conference of the Tamil Nadu branch of the INTUC-affiliated Indian National Transport Workers Federation here, he said 57 schemes in eight departments worth Rs 37,000 crore was sanctioned by the Centre to Tamil Nadu in the past three years.
Mr Vasan said the Central Govenment is keen to protect the interest of the working class and is launching various welfare measures for the benefit of even unorganised workers. There were 35 crore unorganised workers in the country at present, he added.
He said the UPA Government at the Centre is working to elevate the country to super-power status in the coming years, and called upon the working class and others to cooperate with the Government to achieve this.
He lauded the INTUC-led Indian National Transport Workers Fedetration for directly involving the public service and wanted them to work for strengthening the base of the Congress party in the State and for establishing the Kamaraj rule in the State.
