J K Cabinet reviews relief efforts
Jammu, Mar 18 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Cabinet today reviewed the relief efforts being made by the state administration in meeting the situation arising out of recent spells of heavy rains and snowfalls.
The Cabinet, which met here under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, expressed gratitude to the Centre Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for providing timely assistance to the stranded passengers due to prolonged closure of 300-kms-long Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
It was informed 9,454 stranded passengers were airlifted by indian air force between Jammu and Srinagar free of cost.
From tomorrow air transport is also being deployed for airlifting fresh vegetables, milk and eggs from jammu to srinagar, the cabinet was informed.
It was also informed that over 14,000 stranded passengers had been helped to trans-ship at panthyal.
Similarly, road communication has by and large been restored in the entire state and problem of water-logging in cities and towns is being attended to on war-footing, deploying large numbers of water pumps on round-the-clock basis.
