Ahmedabad, Mar 18 (UNI) Former Anand district civic BJP president Lalsinh Vadodariya, who had quit the party on March 5, saying he was being totally ignored, today joined the Congress at a public meeting chaired by Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) chief Bharatsinh Solanki and Union minister of State for petroleum Dinsha Patel.

Mr Vadodariya, who was once the district BJP president for two terms, brought along 700 BJP workers from all over the district, who also joined the Congress.

In his speech, Mr Vadodariya said that from now on he would work for Congress with full devotion. He said he will be a true 'Congressi' like the Iranian Parsis of Yore, who had come to Gujarat shores seeking asylum and began living like local Gujaratis by assimilating the local culture.

GPCC chief Mr Solanki said that Central Gujarat has elected the maximum MLAs of the BJP and yet the State government has virtually done nothing in terms of developmental projects for the region.

''What the region has seen is largescale corruption. Therefore the BJP workers are restless. They are changing their leaders by joining Congress to defeat BJP in the forthcoming Assembly Elections,'' he said.

He also said that the present government is anti-women and acting against the interests of farmers and Dalits.

Mr Dinsha Patel said that only Congress can defeat the Congress.

When there is internal squabbles in the party it faces the threat of being defeated. If the Congress can maintain unity it certainly can bag 130 seats in the coming State polls, Mr Patel added.
