Drains and canals to be cleaned up in Punjab: Minister
Moga, Mar 18 (UNI) The Punjab government has sought the assistance of NABARD to carry out its ambitious project of brick-lining the sides of all major canals in the state.
To check water seepage from the canals, it has been decided by the government to go in for brick-lining and repair of canals in the state and for this project, the government has decided to seek financial assistance from NABARD, state irrigation minister Janmeja Singh Sekhon told mediapersons here today.
Brick-lining and repair would also ensure that water reaches the tail-end of canals, he said.
Mr Sekhon said that another major area of concern was water logging and this problem was particularly serious in certain belts of the Malwa region, particularly Muktsar district. To check water logging, the government has decided to carry out desilting and cleaning of drains and water courses, he added.
