CSWO demands CBI probe into maids murder case in DGP's house
Shillong, Mar 18 (UNI) The Civil Society Women's Organisation (CSWO) today demanded a CBI probe into the alleged murder of a female domestic help in Meghalaya's Director General of Police William Richmond Marbaniang's residence.
This demand came after Shimti Kharsohnoh, mother of the victim, Rinnehskhem Kharsohnoh (26), has alleged that her daughter was 'brutally murdered' at the DGP's residence in Upper Nongthymmai on March seven.
'' We will meet the Chief Minister tomorrow and demand a CBI probe into the incident,'' CSWO president Mrs Irene Hujon told UNI here today.
Earlier, Chief Minister D D Lapang had said that he would go through the papers regarding the matter.
'' No one is above the law, and action would be taken against those found guilty,'' Mr Lapang said.
Yesterday, Ms Kharshohnoh, who made her statement before the Police and to State Women's Commission chairman Biloris Lyndem about the gruesome incident, claimed that it was a murder and not a suicide case.
Earlier, police had said the deceased had committed suicide by slitting her throat. However, autopsy reports indicate it to be a murder case.
''It is really sad to see police claiming it to be a suicide case,'' Ms Kharsohnoh said, adding that the victim had cut and injury marks on her face and thighs.
The Meghalaya People's Human Rights Council (MPHRC) had demanded a high-level inquiry into the matter.
MPHRC president D D G Dympep had urged the police department to come out with a clear-cut investigation into this murder.
''If the police department failed to do justice to the case, then the MPHRC would file a PIL against the department,'' he said.
