Cauvery: Govt issues counsels' views on gazette notification
Chennai, Mar 18 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government tonight circulated to all political parties, the views of the two counsels on the gazette notification of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal award, following AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa's demand for publicising the same.
The official release issued here carried the views of lawyers K Parasaran and P P Rao on the basis of which Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on March 15, had said about the ''impossibility'' of pressing for an immediate notification on the award, before the expiry of three months for the disputing parties to file review petitions.
Mr Karunanidhi's contention had come after seeking the views of Mr Parasaran and Rao, who had appeared for the case before the Tribunal.
However, Ms Jayalalithaa had criticised the government's stand on the Cauvery issue and had observed a day's fast today to condemn the same.
In the release, Mr Parasaran reiterated that ''it it was improper for any party to request the Centre to issue the notification under section 6 of the Inter Satate Water Disputes Act, 1956, before the time for reference under section 5 (3) expires.'' Mr Rao expressing his view, said, ''the Centre has to wait till May four, 2007 to see whether any disputing party files the review petition under section 5 (3) of the Act'' UNI
