TN CM launches 3rd phase of free land to landless scheme
Chennai, Mar 17 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today launched the third phase of distribution of free land to landless poor and second phase of distribution of free gas stoves at Chennavaram in Tiruvannamalai district of the state.
While the Chief Minister launched the schemes in Tiruvannamalai district, his ministerial colleagues and Union Ministers distributed land and gas stoves to beneficiaries in the city and other parts of the state.
The state government inaugurated the free land distribution scheme on September 17, coinciding with the birth anniversary of rationalist leader Periyar E V Ramasamy. In the first two phases, it had distributed 5.77 acre developed waste lands to 50,189 landless poor people. In the third phase today, 25,000 acre land was distributed.
Similarly, the government, as promised in the DMK election manifesto, had launched the free gas stove and gas connection scheme on January 14, coinciding with the Pongal festival, benefitting 34,500 poor housewives. The Chief Minister initiated the second phase of the scheme today, to benefit 2,65,500 families.
Union Ministers T R Baalu, Dayanidhi Maran, S Ragupathy and Tamil Nadu Local Administration Minister M K Stalin distributed free gas stoves and LPG connections to the poor in the city.
Senior Ministers K Anbazhagan, Veerapandi S Arumugam and K N Nehru launched the schemes at Thakkalai, Pennagaram and Kulithalai respectively, Union Ministers A Raja, S S Palanimanickam and Subbulakshmi Jagadeesan distributed free lands and gas stoves in Musiri, Nannilam and Vellore (Namakkal district).
