New Delhi, Mar 17 (UNI) Panting and puffing with profits to the tune of tens of crores, the Railways is running its entire electricity requirement of the Nizammudin Railway Colony here on stolen power.

Ironically, the Railways had been charging the consumers, over 50 households, for this 'stolen electricity', according to the BSES.

''Hundred per cent electricity requirement of Nizammudin Railway Colony (was) being directly tapped (stolen) from BSES overhead system,'' it said adding that preliminary assessment pegged the load at over 150 KW for which a bill of Rs 62.73 lakh had been raised on the Railways.

Meanwhie, the Railways in its reply denied the BSES allegation saying there wasn't anything illegal being done by it.

''We have taken no illegal connections and everything has been paid for,'' Northern Railways spokesman told UNI and added that outstanding dues if any would be paid.

The BSES, in its release, had also alleged that the entire Railway colony had been running on un-metered electricity, which was being used for both domestic lighting and community services like Community Pumping Stations, Streetlights and Corridor lighting.
