Chandigarh, Mar 17 (UNI) The Vigilance Wing of Haryana Power Utilities would organise rallies against theft of electricity in 1,000 villages in second phase of its campaign to check the menace of theft of power in the state.

Inspector General (Police) Vigilance, Haryana Power Utilities, Liak Ram Dabas, said in the first phase of the campaign, rallies, painting and drawing competitions, declamation contests would be organised.

Mr Dabas said that electricity costing over Rs 700 crore was being pilferaged in Haryana. This huge amount was sufficient to meet the expenditure required for strengthening and augmenting power transmission and distribution system in the state.

Over 30 per cent power in the state was being wasted in line losses mainly due to theft.

The State Power Utilities could supply power round-the-clock in the state from the present availability if the menace of theft of electricity could be eliminated.
