Mumbai varsity to set up film, TV institute on its campus
Thane, Mar 17 (UNI) Mumbai University vice chancellor Dr Vijay Kolhe today said the university will soon introduce several diploma courses, including one in sports management, and also set up a Film and TV academy on the campus.
Mr Kolhe was in the city to inaugurate a one-day seminar on Migration of Chemical and Allied Industries from Thane and Trans-Thane Creek Area. It was organised by the Dnyanasadhana College.
Talking to a section of mediapersons here, Mr Kolhe said the university will make optimum use of the funds made available by the University Grants Commission (UGC), Planning Commission and Central Government to provide the most modern infrastructure and facilities to make the university one of the best in the world.
He said the funds to the tune of Rs 100 crore were made available by the Planning Commission. Besides, Rs 30 crore would come from the UGC and Rs 60 crore for the Film academy.
He said the efforts were on to set up IT park worth Rs 6.5 crore on the campus and also for the School of Languages at a cost of Rs 3.5 crores.
The university will tie up with the Tata Consultancy Services to enhance the facilities and studies in IT, Mr Kolhe said.
Besides, the university will get Rs 21 crore from 21 centres for 15 different subjects, including the one for Tribal Studies, which will be named after Comrade Godutai Parulekar, he said.
The university was also collaborating with various agencies and organisations to encourage the research and development activities by the professors and students community.
He said the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) and the UGC and the Bhabha Atmoic Research Centre (BARC) and the teaching staff were conducting research on various fields.
A research and study was also on on Nanoscience, he said and added that all possible assistance for the same was being given by the university.
On the migration of chemical industries, he said in the process of urbanisation the migration was natural and could not be arrested.
Dnyanasadhan College chairman Satish Pradhan was also present on the occasion.
