Koda announces Rs one lakh for kins of BCCL victims

Dhanbad, Mar 17 (UNI) Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda today announced Rs one lakh as compensation to kins of ten people who were buried after a land caved in near Kusunda coal mines on March 15.

Mr Koda had held his predecessor Arjun Munda responsible for the devastation.

Mr Koda told reporters that the disaster could have been avoided had the BCCL taken precautionary measures beforehand adding that the BCCL was required to fill the vacuum with sand after digging out the coal.

When reporters asked about the compensation in last year's Nagda mines disaster that claimed the lives of 50 people, Mr Koda said compensation would be released soon.

Former Chief Minister Arjun Munda who visited the site yesterday, demanded Rs five lakh as compensation to the deceased's families and employment to the affected.

The government had advised the people of that locality to shift to another site as a fire zone was spotted underneath.
