TN: NBC unearthens heroin smuggling racket
Chennai, Mar 17: Officials of the South Zone Unit of the Narcotic Control Bureau (NCB) have unearthened a heroin smuggling racket following detention of two Singapore bound air passengers, at Anna International Airport here last night.
Zonal Director, NCB Davidson Deva Aasirvatham, said acting on a tip off, a team led by him went to the airport and made a thorough check of passengers and their baggages, on the Chennai-Singapore Indian Airlines flight. They detained Jamuludeen Shakulhameed (40) and Syed Sultan Sekhu (43) and took them for interrogation.
During the interrogation, they came to know that Jamaludeen Shakulhameed had concealed about 400 gms of heroin in capsule form.
He was admitted to the Government General Hospital for taking the capsule out.
He said the process was not yet completed. Based on his information, the NCB team raided a house at CIT Nagar in the city and seized 300 gms of heroin packed in capsules.
Further investigations are on, he said.
