Federal Bank Employees indefinite strike from March 26

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 17 (UNI) The Federal Bank Employees' Union today called an indefinite nation-wide strike from March 26, demanding various issues, including immediate filling of vacant posts and ending contract employment.

Talking to mediapersons here, Union General Secretary P P Varghese alleged that the management was not recruiting staff and was engaging contract workers from outside agencies to do the banking activities.

Mr Varghese said the strike would affect banking activities as 90 per cent of the employees were members of the union.

Though the bank had increased its branches to 520 from 400, the management had done nothing to increase the staff strength and above all it reduced the strength to 2,400 from the 3,000, he pointed out.
