Efforts on 'medico-astro' cancer therapy begin at BHU

Varanasi, Mar 17 (UNI) A 'jyotishi' (astrologer), famous for making ambitious predictions, may well end up assisting medicos for treating cancer in future.

The national conference of astrologers held at the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) here yesterday, is deliberating the role of astrologers in cancer treatment and possible evolution of a medico-astro cancer therapy.

''The Akhil Bharatiya Jyotish Sammelan is the starting block for future medico-astro cancer therapy,'' organising chairman of the conference and Head of Jyotish Shastra Department, BHU Chandrama Pandey told UNI.

Presently, a combination of medical-surgical-radiotheraphy is being used to optimally treat and cure cancers, which were once incurable. The science of astrology can be of immense help in forecasting the incidence of cancer years before its actual onslaught, through the study of cancer causative planetary situations in an individual's horoscope, he added.

''Even doctors from prestigious Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai, one of the premier cancer care centres have sent us 30 horoscopes of patients of varied stages of cancer,'' Prof Pandey claimed.

By making astrological calculations we have not only been able to tell the doctors in Mumbai about the maximum age of the patient, but also the prospects of the success of the ongoing treatment keeping in mind various planetary situations that could have caused cancer among the concerned patients, Prof Pandey added.

Even the 18 'pravartaks' of Jyotish Shastra who have depended on three basic processes -- Ganit, Phalit and Samhita -- in making predicitions have found out two human disorders -- Karkar and Arbud -- resembling cancer to be caused by planetary changes reflected in an individual's horoscope, he maintained.

''If the medico-astro cancer therapy is evolved, qualified astrologers can forecast the threat of cancer years before its actual incidence. After spotting the cancerous formations in the horoscope, they can at least suggest concerned individuals to go for regular medical check ups within a particular future time frame without even telling the patient the prospects of future cancer affliction,'' Prof Pandey said.

In treatment of every disease, the maxim 'prevention is better than cure' holds the key and by predicting possibility of future cancer astrologers can serve as a vital strand in preventive cancer care.

Besides preventive care, if astrology is blooded into treament of cancer through classical astrological solutions for cancer causing planetary formations, the chances of cure of the fatal diseases will receive a major boost, he said.

This national conference is being attended by 118 astrolgers carrying 'kundalis' of cancer patients and the astrological solutions successfully offered to these patients.

After the two-day deliberations, a roadmap will be prepared for the possible evolution of medico-astro cancer therapy. A World Astrologers Conference next year in BHU will then pave the way for the evolution of the medico-astro cancer therapy with the help of interested cancer care institutions.

A proposal is also being sent to the University Grants Commission (UGC) for instituting a project on evolution of medico-astro cancer approach at the Jyotish Shastra department of BHU, where researches have already been conducted on the topic in the past, Prof Pandey informed.
