Discontented Congress workers indulge in vandalism at Cong office
New Delhi, Mar 17 (UNI) A crowd of discontented workers today indulged in vandalism at the Delhi Pradesh Congress office in protest against denial of ticket for the coming MCD polls, scheduled to be held on April 5.
A large number of disgruntled Congress workers thronged the office of the Delhi Pradesh Congress after the list of the party candidates for the polls was released this morning.
The workers alleged that large scale nepotism had come into play in the process of selection of candidates.
It is notable that 43 sitting councillors have been denied a ticket for the coming polls, the most prominent among them being Leader of the House in the current MCD Jitender Kochar.
Congress sources said Mr Kochar's name was dropped as his ward has been reserved for women under the new delimitation.
Further, Mr Kochar's wife, who was also among applicants for the seat from which he is the councillor, was also denied a ticket.
Almost 50 per cent of the candidates in the Congress list, announced after a marathon meeting of the Congress selection committee comprising Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and other senior party leaders, comprises of youth.
Sitting councillors like Standing Committee Chairma Jai Kishen Sharma, Brij Bhushan Sharma and Satbir Sharma have been included in the list.
