Centre decides to increase MBBS seats in JIPMER: Ramadass

Puducherry, Mar 17 (UNI) The Centre has decided to increase the number of seats in MBBS course in JIPMER, PMK Parliamentary party leader M Ramadass said today.

In a statement here, Prof Ramadass said the number of MBBS seats would be increased to 100 from the present 75 to provide reservation for the backward class students.

He said 19 seats would be allotted to the OBC candidates from this year and number of seats for the Scheduled Caste would be increased to 15 from 11 and for Scheduled Tribes from six to eight.

The Puducherry quota would go up to 26 from the present 20 seats and out of it five seats would be for the OBC from Puducherry and four for SC students of Puducherry.

MD course in Radiotherapy would be started in JIPMER from this year, Mr Ramadass said and added that the number of seats in MSc Medical Bio-Chemistry would be increased to nine from the present six, MLT to 30 from 20 and out of the 75 BSc Nursing course seats, 20 would be reserved for the OBC, he added.
