Boycott of Bihar Assembly session continues

Patna, Mar 17 (UNI) The boycott of Bihar Assembly session by the opposition parties, demanding withdrawal of a censure motion passed in the house on March 12, continued for the fifth day today.

The motion was passed against some opposition members, who had snapped microphone wires and damaged furniture in the House to vent their anger over the failure of the state government to nab the culprits responsible for 'blowing-up' the residence of RJD MLA Kunti Devi.

Speaker Udai Narain Chaudhary today held parleys with opposition members and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar during a meeting called to end the deadlock but opposition leaders did not relent.

After the meeting, opposition leader Rabri Devi told reporters that under a strategic move, the state government was deliberately trying to linger the crisis to ensure passage of several bills in the House with empty opposition benches.

She alleged that the Chief Minister and deputy chief minister were issuing misleading statements to create hurdles in finding out an amicable solution to this crisis.

She clarified that boycott was not for protecting any particular member.

'' The government should have apologised for the mistake when the amendments in censure motion was moved, '' Ms Rabri Devi said adding opposition would not participate in the proceedings of the house till the motion was withdrawn.
