Assam Rifle jawan rape 18-year-old in Manipur

Imphal, Mar 17 (UNI) An Assam Rifles jawan has allegedly raped an 18-year-old at Kotlien in Senapati district.

The incident, which occurred on March 13, has triggered a public outrage with several student and civil organisation taking it to the street demanding severe action against the accused.

Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh will hold discussions with the All Manipur Working Journalists Union here today over their demand to punish the jawan.

Meanwhile, the civil society has threatened to intensify its stir, if the government fails to take any action by March 18.

The 18 Assam Rifles troops had physically assaulted the mediapersons, while they were reporting the incident.
