Kolkata, Mar 16 (UNI) BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani tonight demanded imposition of Article 356 in West Bengal following the killing of fourteen people in police firing at Nandigram on Wednesday.

Leading a three-member NDA delegation, Mr Advani arrived here to visit Nandigram tomorrow where at least fourteen people were killed and many injured in police firing on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters soon after landing at the airport, the BJP leader said the Nandigram incident was an example of ''Stalinist method'' adopted by the West Bengal government.

Replying to a question on imposition of Article 356 in the state, Mr Advani said ''If the Union Government wished it can always give direction to the state government under the constitution.'' ''The condition now exists in West Bengal is appropriate for imposition of Article 356'', he added.

The BJP leader criticised Prime Minsiter Monmohan Singh for heaping praise on Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee.

He also referred to recent differences between the UPA and CPI(M) as it happened in Parliament.

''The CPI(M)'s economic policy is responsible for West Bengal remaining under developed for so long'', he added.

''The CPI(M) should bow its head down after what the Governor said on the violence at Nandigram'' Mr Advani added.

Mr Advani was accompanied by Geroge Fernandez and Sushma Swaraj.
