159 nominations filed for phase I

Lucknow, Mar 17 (UNI) Altogether 159 nominations were filed today for the first and second phases of Uttar Pradesh elections for 120 assembly seats to be held on April 7 and 13 respectively.

Of the total, 154 candidates filed their nominations for the first phase of election in 62 assembly seats, while the rest five were filed for the second phase in 58 seats where notification was issued today.

Now, a total of 310 candidates are in fray for the first phase.

No nomination was filed for the Bilhaur Lok Sabha seat for which by-election would be held along with the first phase of polling.

March 20 is the last date of filing nominations for the first phase and on the next day scrutiny of papers would be done.

Candidiates can withdraw nomination till March 23.

Nominations for the second phase which started today, will continue till March 24 while scrutiny of nominations would be done on march 26. Candidates can withdraw their nominations till March 28.
