Total bandh in Nandigram

Nandigram, Mar 16 (UNI) The Opposition-sponsored 12 hour statewide bandh to protest the killing of 14 people here evoked total response in the site of the incident.

All shops and markets remained closed in both east and west Midnapur district.

Buses went off the roads and no vehicles plied.

Meanwhile, a clash took place between the CPI(M) and AITC activists at about 1000 hours in front of the Midnapur collectorate building.

Police said as the District co-ordination committee members tried to enter the District Magistrate's West Midnapur Office, the Trinamool Congress supporters tried to prevent them leading to a clash between them. They pelted stones at each other. Four TMC supporters were injured in stone throwing.

Heavy police arrangements were made in front of the District Magistrate office here.

Meanwhile, social activist Anuradha Talwar was prevented from entering Reapara in Nandigram by armed CPM supporters this morning.

They lay down in front of her car, preventing her from entering the place.
