Telecom subscriber base reaches 202 mln in February
New Delhi, Mar 16 (UNI) The booming telephone subscribers base has further surged by 5.83 million to 202.74 million at the end of February as compared to 196.91 million in January this year.
The overall tele-density increased to 18.26 in February as compared to 17.45 in January, a Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) statement said today.
In the wireless segment, 6.22 million lines were provided in February in comparison to 6.81 million lines in January.
Currently, the total wireless subscriber base is at 162.53 million, the statement added.
In the wireline segment, with the minor reduction in subscriber base by 0.01 million lines in February, the total wireline subscribers stood at 40.39 million.
According to the statement, during the eleven months of current financial year 62.60 million lines have been added as compared to 35.93 million lines provision in the same period during the financial year 2005-06.
The total broadband connections in the country reached 2.21 million by the end of February.
In the month, 0.06 million connections have been added as against 0.05 million added during January, registering a growth of 2.8 per cent.
