Nandigram issue; RS and LS adjourned for 1hour

New Delhi, Mar 16: The Nandigram issue reverberated in the Lok Sabha for the second day today with the BJP-led Opposition creating noisy scenes and staging a demonstration, forcing the adjournment of the house for an hour.

As soon as the question hour began, Opposition members trooped into the well of the house, shouting slogans and demanding the resignation of the West Bengal government over the issue of police firing in Nandigram on March 14 which resulted in the death of 12 farmers, who were opposing creation a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in the area.

Deputy Speaker Charnjit Singh Atwal, who was in the chair, called the mover of the first question, but no business could be transacted in the din.

The Treasury benches also shouted at the Opposition benches and demanded that the naxalite violence in Chhattisgarh, in which Maoists killed 55 security personnel in a pre-dawn attack on a police camp at Ranibodli yesterday, be discussed.

Amid the vociferous trading of charges, the chair adjourned the house within five minutes for an hour till 1200 hrs.

RS Ajourned:

The Nandigram issue rocked the Rajya Sabha again today for the second day in succession, forcing adjournment of the House for an hour.

As soon as the House assembled for the Question Hour, members from all political parties were on their feet, trading charges.

Members from the BJP, the CPI(M) and the Congress were seen shouting at one another although nothing was discernible in the din.

Chairman Bhairon Singh Shekhawat merely asked, ''what is the matter ?'' The slogan-shouting and the protests continued for three minutes after which the Chairman adjourned the House till 1200 hrs.

Before the House assembled for the Question Hour, CPI-M member Sitaram Yechuri was seen confabulating with his party workers.
