Ragging: Committee to submit report in April

Hyderabad, Mar 16 (UNI) The problem of ragging is very real and not at all imagined.

This was the impression gained across the country by the committee of experts appointed by the Centre on a Supreme Court directive to prevent ragging in educational institutions.

Talking to reporters after a public hearing, its Chairman and former Central Bureau of Investigation Director R K Raghavan said steps should be taken on a war footing to prevent the social menace.

The Committee would submit its report in the first week of April.

It would include measures to prevent ragging in educational institutions and to ameliorate the student community's suffering.

Major suggestions received by the Committee included enactment of laws at the national level, constitution of committees in all educational institutions with students, professors and parent representatives, making educational institutions accountable, said Committee members A K Agarwal (Dean, New Delhi-based Maulana Azad Medical College, Prof Rajendra Prasad (Ramjas College Principal) Chandra Krishnamurthy (SNDT Women's University Vice-Chancellor), Prof S Sathik (Madras University Former Vice-Chancellor).
